The Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Nurse reports to the Administrative Director of Care and is expected to coordinate and oversee all aspects of resident-focused delivery of care. IPAC Nurse will also ensure that there is an organized infection prevention and control program that meets regulatory requirements and is in line with Provincial Infectious Disease Advisory Committee (PIDAC) standards.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Development and modification of the care plans in response to residents’ individualized healthcare needs and changes in healthcare status
  • Required to understand the nature and meaning of quality indicators used by the Home and to understand which indicators are publicly reported,
  • Required to participate in the improvement of the indicators and achieve satisfactory results,
  • Reviews daily infection control surveillance for trends and potential spread,
  • Coordinates influenza and COVID Booster clinics for both staff and residents,
  • Visits and review all departments to ensure adherence to infection prevention and control standards,
  • Completes regular PPE and hand hygiene audits as per schedule,
  • Makes recommendations concerning environmental sanitation in the Home,
  • Follows guidelines for reporting communicable diseases to the appropriate government agencies,
  • Assists staff in the prevention and spread of infection in the Home by supervising the setup and maintenance of routine practices and other infection prevention and control-related practices,
  • Ensures communication of the infection control data, purposes, and objectives through postings, etc in the home for residents, visitors, and staff awareness,
  • Participates in infection control education events,
  • Reviews daily infection control surveillance for trends and potential spread,
  • Coordinates influenza and COVID Booster clinics for both staff and residents,
  • Visits and review all departments to ensure adherence to infection prevention and control standards,
  • Completes regular PPE and hand hygiene audits as per schedule,
  • Engages in many meaningful interactions with residents during your entire shift,
  • Makes recommendations concerning environmental sanitation in the Home,
  • Follows guidelines for reporting communicable diseases to the appropriate government agencies,
  • Assists staff in the prevention and spread of infection in the Home by supervising the setup and maintenance of routine practices and other infection prevention and control-related practices,
  • Ensures communication of the infection control data, purposes, and objectives through postings, etc in the home for residents, visitors, and staff awareness,
  • Participates in infection control education events,
  • Any and all other tasks as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

 

The qualifications needed to join our family are as follows:

  • Registered Nurse with a current Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario, in good Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario as Registered Nurse or a Registered Nurse registered with a regulatory authority in a Canadian jurisdiction, other than Ontario, and holds in that jurisdiction the equivalent of a certificate of registration authorizing independent practice in Ontario as of right exemption Bill 60,
  • Current Non-Acute Care Infection Control Professional (NAC ICP) certification,
  • Experience in infection control in the Long Term Care or Acute Care sector is an asset,
  • Training and experience in Quality Improvement is preferred,
  • Knowledge of RAI-MDS – AIS certified, if not must be completed successfully within one (1) year of being hired,
  • Current CPR and First Aid are required,
  • Ability to work from the heart and make others smile,
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills,
  • Must have a clear vulnerable sector screen, no older than 6 months, TB test results from less than 6 months old and must be able to provide three supervisory references.
